Apprentice progression at Tex Plastics Derby
19 November 2018
Tex Plastics Derby Maintenance Apprentice Daniel Tanser moves to specialise in automations as his role develops.
My apprenticeship journey from maintenance to robotics
“The maintenance apprenticeship role I took with Tex Plastics provided me with a great background in what’s needed to keep the plastic injection machinery and tooling running efficiently. As a foundation for my career development, it’s been a great grounding, and it’s provided lots of options for my future. I have lots of choices of roles within Tex Plastics Derby, however it’s the programming of the robotics that interests me most.”
PlayStation to Programming Multi-million pound machinery
“Collaborative robots use a kind of ‘PlayStation technology to enable fast programming of cycles. Typically on shorter runs of complex actions, the programming could take a significant amount of time. The new style of programming is a lot easier and more intuitive. Working with technology is something I’ve grown up with so I found the transition from maintenance to programming the cycles easy. Tex Plastics have been great in encouraging me to develop my skills and broaden my role and I’m looking forward to developing my knowledge here at their Derby site.”
