Experienced Toolmaker David Harvey
15 May 2023
Tex Plastics welcome the experienced ‘time served toolmaker’ to the team at the Derby site.
It's a terrific team here at Tex Plastics
It's exciting to be joining a business who is actually investing in tooling, toolmakers and the associated facilities. With a four strong team of dedicated toolmakers, the business is still looking to expand the team, and bring in trainees. I'm just really getting to know Paul Quipp, and he is typical of the people who work here, very experienced and really cares. He says it's typical that the company is investing in an overhead crane system for changing tools now he's retiring.
Another new toolmaker will be joining us shortly
Pauls’ retirement opens up an opportunity for another experienced toolmaker, or fitter, to keep the team up to strength. Working in a toolmaking environment you need specific skills and knowledge, but there is an overlap between a general 'fitter' and toolmaker. The role involves lots of transferable skills, but the toolmaker role is more closely linked to the daily manufacturing process. You need to understand the function of tools, how they operate within the plastic injection process and to really understand the differences in the maintenance regimes.
