Quality Technician Home Grown Timber

Kenny Hodgson is a great example of the career progression opportunities within Tex Plastics, and the ongoing investment programme.

I joined as an apprentice straight from school

I didn't really know what I wanted to do, but I enjoy problem solving. A BTEC Level 3 Engineering combined with the hands-on experience of an apprenticeship seemed a great combination. The thing I liked at Tex Plastics, and which influenced my decision to take an apprenticeship with them, was diversity of products they made. I was also told that the role I would be being trained up for was to be in a key growth area of the business. So it was highly likely I would be offered a job at the end of the process and have good career prospects.

The investment in the quality engineering team

When I first started at Tex Plastics, the Quality Lab was in a small office, there was only one CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine). Now I have a beautiful new lab to work in, with new measuring equipment and two CMM's. The team is growing and we've had some highly experienced engineers join the team. I get involved in lots of projects, producing documentation, conducting quality tests. I feel a valued member of the quality engineering team and love understanding how parts are made, the processes they need to go through and the part they play in their application within a finished product.
