Innovation in domestic heating
2 September 2024
TEX Plastics has a long and credible background in the manufacture of domestic water heating cylinders and is actively engaged in Britain’s heating revolution.
Greater thermal efficiency combined with optimised manufacturing
Working with UK manufacturers in the domestic heating sector is technically challenging as it involves multiple factors which need to be considered in the design stage. The moulding tools are expensive, the finished product needs to have a cosmetic element, whilst being highly performance driven. TEX Plastics have helped several manufactures develop innovative solutions which help optimise both manufacturing and product performance. The lighter thermal qualities of plastic means less heat is lost in heating phase, so by replacing metal components with plastic moulded parts delivers both cost and performance benefits.
"We have developed a level of expertise in domestic water heating which is recognised by several manufacturers. Working closely with their product development teams we are able to add value which is unique to their designs to increase thermal efficiency and optimise manufacturing processes.

Helping UK domestic heating manufacturers adapt and thrive
The shift towards low-carbon heating and consumer preferences driving market demand are driving UK manufacturers of domestic heating products to revolutionise their water heating product ranges. Traditional gas boilers, a mainstay in UK homes, are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. To meet these climate goals, the heating industry needs to move towards cleaner technologies. The UK government is actively pushing for a switch to low-carbon heating solutions. This includes financial incentives for homeowners to install heat pumps, a cleaner alternative and a planned ban on gas boiler installations in new homes from 2025. These policies make it less viable for manufacturers to focus solely on traditional gas boilers.
