Injection Moulding Tool Room Expansion

Injection moulding of intricate plastic components is on the increase, having the in-house tool room function to manage and maintain the increasingly complex moulds is essential.

Precision Plastic Injection Moulding Tooling Capability

As with many aspects of tooling it has followed the ebb and flow of off-shore and re-shoring of manufacturing. Tex Plastic’s tool room capability was like many other plastic injection moulders, run down in cost saving exercises as more tooling went to the Far East. With the increase in re-shoring plastic injection moulding, the absence of a fully functioning tool room became more and more problematic. With the investment in a pivot head forklift, optimised floor space and increased tool store capacity back in 2019, the Derby facility has continued to develop it’s tooling room expansion.

Ongoing investment in equipment, training and people

With a growing team working within the tooling room, our focus is ensuring they have the necessary skills. In addition to recruiting experienced tool makers, we’re also developing more sophisticated maintenance processes and training to engineers working in the tool shop. Because equipping a tool room for proper mould maintenance and repair takes more than just the right technology. We’ll also be adding an apprentice to the team later in 2021 to ensure we have a solid development platform to accommodate the expected growth in this area.
