Life critical plastic injection moulded components

With highly dangerous environments and activities or where the two combine, there isn’t an option for failure. Tex Plastics have a pedigree in producing plastic moulded components on which peoples lives depend.

Committed to supporting our customers

  • Highly experienced in close tolerance component development and manufacture
  • Experts in material selection for challenging applications
  • Manufacturing to the highest possible quality standards

Whether the product houses highly sensitive electronics designed to provide a locating signal in case of emergency or breathing apparatus for firefighters, Tex Plastics design team have the capability to help develop it.

Working closely with the clients design teams we take the concept drawings through a design for manufacture process, incorporating materials selection, prototyping and testing. The understanding of a life critical plastic components environment, use and lifespan all combine to help us to work in partnership. With common objectives to help preserve life in whatever application, whilst producing a plastic part and any relevant combination of post moulding services to make the unit price as competitive as possible.

High temperature polymer and zero failure rate for breathing apparatus components

High temperature polymer and zero failure rate for breathing apparatus components

There are few environments more dangerous than those a firefighter is challenged with entering. Often volatile, toxic and unpredictable – the firefighters life is protected by state of the art breathing apparatus and sophisticated personal protection clothing.
With a redesign of tooling and the change of polymer, it enabled ultra thin moulding to hit the clients usability requirements. Manufactured using robotic cell assembly also shortened lead times, so even with Intensive testing and product validation, the clients supply chain shortened – further reducing the manufacturing costs.

Over moulding redesign reduces assembly time by 22% for marine life saving product. Tex Plastics worked with the customer to fully understand the entire process, starting with the products core functionality. Then reviewed every stage of the manufacturing process from moulding and assembly to final packaging. The Tex Plastics design engineering team applied ‘lean manufacturing techniques’ to the redesign process. The redesign incorporated an ‘over moulding’ technique which had the added benefit of eliminating several areas of waste identified within the current assembly process.

Advanced technical polymers combined with an over moulding process ensured the wristband was comfortable, waterproof and hypoallergenic.
Understanding how the product worked and needed to perform, from sensing motion, detecting falls and communicating wirelessly was invaluable in the selection of the right solution. Working closely with the client, the designers and injection mould toolmakers at Tex Plastics were able to add value to the process with expert polymer selection and an over moulding manufacturing process. Understanding the importance of comfort influenced the moulding and fixing techniques to contribute to the award winning wristband.
